A bit about me

I’m happiest when getting stuck into complex problems and untangling messy systems to create intuitive, accessible and positive experiences. I also love managing and supporting others, in both project leadership and line management roles.

I consider myself a kind, level-headed, supportive, and highly motivated designer. I enjoy being challenged and working alongside other caring and creative practitioners.

UIC Digital

UX Design Lead | 2023 - Present

The majority of my time at UIC Digital has seen me leading UX on the enormous reinvention of BBC.com for non-UK audiences.

Beyond project work, I’ve played a key role in establishing and driving an employee council, a conduit of feedback from members of the business up to the senior leadership team.

I’ve also established regular team outings and events for the design team, helping foster a creative spirit within a traditionally technical agency.

Channel 5 / Paramount | My5

I joined the project as sole UX designer, working on the My5 platform across all devices, designing new features for web, app, and CTV (over 10 different platforms). I led on the creation of the new concept of ‘Collections’ to better curate and showcase 5’s content.

BBC.com | Audio product

Planned and led all design work on a fast-paced project to integrate podcast and radio listening into the new rest-of-world BBC product. I both handled all stakeholder and technical design requirements and worked as the sole UX designer across web and app, supported by two UI designers. The audio product is now live to all users across the globe and replaces the existing BBC Sounds experience.

BBC.com | Connected TV app

I planned and led the design of a from-scratch connected TV app for the BBC, to be available for all customers outside the UK. This app posed the unique challenge of combining the BBC's documentary, news video, and podcast content into one seamless experience, a challenge not tackled by any competitors. My synthesis of potential product requirements, followed by a complex prototype proof of concept, and a brand new CTV design system, became the core from which the full app was roadmapped and designed.

BBC.com | Mobile app

I was responsible for the design of the mobile app across the entirety of the 18 month engagement with the BBC, alongside the additional Audio and CTV projects. I became the subject matter expert on the behaviour of the app, and was responsible for all new features and enhancements, including considerable work on the onboarding experience, managing saved items, and the article read and video watch experience.

Facctum | Product strategy and design

Facctum is a SaaS start-up that allows financial institutions to ensure they do not offer their services to internationally sanctioned individuals. The client tasked my team with defining and designing the experience of a brand new product. Despite limited budget and time we were able to deliver a build-ready MVP, in addition to creating the product vision and mapping the product’s feature set.

Loop Money | P2P lending app redesign

A fintech start-up that enables peer-to-peer lending, since completing the project Loop has been acquired by Tandem Bank.

Seeking further venture funding, Loop was looking to increase the long-term engagement of their users. Through user research, long and often complex journeys were found to be a customer pain point. I led workshops with the Loop team to simplify the core app functionality and improve journeys to meet customer needs.

Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors | Digital transformation

The beginning of a huge digital transformation programme with RICS, seeking to consolidate their online presence (previously spread across tens of different platforms and domains) into one unified experience for its members, prospects, and the public. Sky | Brand New Sky.com

As design lead on Foolproof’s first engagement with Sky, I managed a team of designers to develop a new digital identity for Sky, and to re-design Sky.com to best showcase the calibre of products and entertainment on offer. I began the project with an exploration of Sky’s brand and a blue sky concept for the site. I then led the creation of a new information architecture and design system which I used to re-design pages across Sky products and which has since been adopted across all of Sky’s digital presence.

I appreciate you making it this far! Here are some fun facts about me.

  • I'm secretly a recording artist

I’ve played drums on a bunch of tracks for very talented friends. You’ll find some on Spotify. I supported James Blunt too (long story).

  • I'm licensed to set off indoor pyrotechnics

(This might have expired though, and I’m not going to chance it). I worked as a sound and lighting engineer at university - just to explain why.

  • I've got a whippet called Otto

He spends most of his time looking sad even though he has a blissful existence and we give him expensive dog food.

  • I'm a keen photographer

Hopefully you didn’t notice, but I took all the product mockup photos on this site. (And this photo too obviously.)
